About This Game

9th Company: Roots of Terror is an action-focused RTS title depicting real events from the Soviet military operations in Afghanistan. The game tracks the journey of a group of raw recruits facing severe training in the Fergana Valley, Uzbekistan, which leads to a brutal battle against Mujahideen warriors on an Afghan mountain. It echoes the Battle of Thermopylae: a lone Russian soldier versus ten Afghans. The title reconstructs the specifics of the final major Soviet military maneuver. On January 7th, 1988, the 9th Company of the 345th Guards Airborne Regiment faced intense fire on “Hill 3234.” They successfully repelled multiple attacks by an estimated 400 Mujahideen and Pakistani mercenaries, defending their position for two gruesome days. Six soldiers were killed, and 28 of the remaining 39 were wounded. Two members received the Golden Star and the title of Soviet Hero posthumously.
