About This Game

By January 1944, the German Army clung to its final position on the Dneiper River. This salient sat between two massive Soviet army groups, specifically the 1st and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts. Although weakened by previous engagements, these powerful groups launched assaults on January 25th and 26th, successfully encircling two German corps. The Germans reacted swiftly, rushing in reinforcements from other sectors. While their relief operation started well, it eventually bogged down due to fierce Soviet resistance and the adverse conditions of "General Mud." Ultimately, the trapped Germans attempted a desperate breakout. Less than half managed to flee the encirclement, leaving behind all heavy weaponry and equipment. Battle For Korsun simulates these historical engagements from January and February 1944. Participants take command of the actual German and Soviet units involved. The Soviet side must synchronize offensives to entrap the Germans rapidly before reinforcements arrive. Conversely, the German player must establish a defensive perimeter and lead a relief mission using Panzer divisions to save their surrounded allies. Features include Hotseat or German versus AI modes, Play By Email (PBEM) support, a large map with units representing Divisions, Regiments, or Battalions, and variable weather conditions.
