About This Game

Welcome to Lamplight City, the Gateway to Vespuccia and the City of Air and Light. While the thriving port of New Bretagne stands as a beacon of industrial progress in the New World, it sits upon a bedrock of crime, poverty, and class struggle beneath the promise of a bright 19th-century future. For Miles Fordham, a police detective turned private investigator, the dark alleys of Lamplight City are familiar ground. However, his sanity is fraying as his deceased former partner constantly speaks to him from beyond the grave. Miles must secure justice for his clients and locate his partner's murderer before his reality crumbles. The game allows you to forge your own path as a detective and face the repercussions of your choices. You can investigate crime scenes and interrogate suspects using legal methods or your own rules, which will influence how characters perceive you. You can tackle five distinct cases featuring multiple suspects, red herrings, and varied endings. You will never hit a dead end; if a case proves unsolvable, advance to the next, and the narrative will shift accordingly. The interface is a streamlined single-click system with no traditional inventory; clues are stored in your casebook and interactions are handled via a context-sensitive cursor. You will traverse a fictional metropolis comprising four unique boroughs, exploring themes like social stratification and the public's dread of new steam technology. The story is inspired by the literary works of Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Dickens, featuring over 50 professionally voiced characters and an original soundtrack composed by Mark Benis.
