About This Game

Project Eagle presents an interactive simulation of a Mars colony situated in Gale Crater, specifically at the foot of Mount Sharp and close to where the Mars Curiosity Rover first landed. Blackbird Interactive Inc. developed this demonstration after being approached by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to visualize a potential Mars base. Designed not as a video game but as an educational instrument, Eagle allows users to discover and study a prospective Martian outpost. The design is based on realistic scenarios and actual science, incorporating direct advice from NASA and JPL experts regarding the technological and physical limitations of constructing human habitats on the red planet. Constructed within the Unity engine, the project utilizes topographical data from the HiRise camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter to achieve one-meter accuracy. It was originally showcased during the 2017 D.I.C.E. Summit by NASA's Dr. Jeff Norris, alongside BBI CEO Rob Cunningham and CCO Aaron Kambeitz.
