We have arrived in 2087—a reality where genetic manipulation is commonplace, the substance known as Trance has superseded the necessity for most human contact, and the city operates under an all-seeing AI called Central. The omnipresent CEL police force monitors all citizens, focusing on three individuals who are destined for doom. Charlie Regis, an agent working for this invasive secret police, is threatened with the murder of his unborn children; pushed to the edge by his lies and history, he must determine the lengths he will go to in order to protect his bloodline. Latha Sesame, an unemployed recluse dependent on the Trance, finds herself marked for death; navigating the hazards of the physical world without knowing who to rely on, she must survive the destiny that has dictated her existence. Max Lao, a technically adept case officer who joined CEL to leave her criminal history behind, finds herself divided by dueling loyalties. When commanded to capture her closest companion, she is forced to decide whether to stand by her friend or uphold the law. As these three battle for survival, they will eventually uncover a web of conspiracies that endangers not just their safety, but their perception of reality itself.
