About This Game
Developed by Ageod, Wars of Succession is a strategy experience centered on the two colossal conflicts that dominated Europe at the dawn of the 18th century. It features the War of Spanish Succession (1701-1713), where the French and Spanish Bourbons clashed with the Grand Alliance comprising the Austrian Habsburg, Britain, and the United Provinces. It also depicts the Great Northern War (1700-1721), pitting Sweden against Russia and its allies amidst a struggle over the Polish succession. These wars are presented through distinct scenarios. Players manage the movements of numerous armies belonging to various great powers and their coalitions, monitoring logistics like supply and fatigue while determining when to fight, besiege, or retreat to recover. The map spans the entirety of Europe from the Atlantic coast to the Volga. The game includes over 200 historical leaders rated on their abilities and more than 200 unit types, ranging from Grenadiers and Musketeers to Winged Hussars and Cossacks, plus various warships. Battlefield Tactics allow players to make pivotal choices during combat. Key features include a map divided into over 5,000 regions with diverse terrain and climates. There are five scenarios total: one introductory tutorial set in Italy in 1701, two main grand campaigns for each major war, and two minor Western Europe campaigns from 1706 and 1709. Production systems let players direct national spending on military, economics, and domestic or foreign politics. The Regional Decision Cards system returns, enabling players to trigger events like Land Mines or Contributions that can alter the campaign's course. The game model incorporates detailed mechanics for Weather, Attrition, Supply, Prisoners, and Fog of War. Historical Events trigger crucial decision points, ranging from local uprisings to foreign interventions. Finally, Sieges and Naval warfare are depicted with great depth, including new flavor events that capture the essence of 18th-century warfare.
